| This specimen of epidote with quartz came from the
Andover Iron Mine in Andover, Sussex County, New Jersey. Andover
is not that far from the Franklin-Sterling Hill complex. The
Andover mines
at one time
even yielded a variety of
yellow-fluorescing willemite! This makes a person wonder what else might lie deep beneath the rocks of Sussex county. Epidote is a complex silicate of calcium, iron and aluminum. It is in the same group as allanite and clinozoisite, as well as a bunch of much rarer species. Photo originally displayed on the CR Scientific website. This specimen is now in someone else's collection. Photo Index Main Page Site contents copyright 2007-2010, njminerals.org |
