| Bustamite: massive to coarsely-crystalline,
translucent, pink. Franklin, NJ. Most Franklin bustamite doesn't actually resemble the specimen above. The color is usually much more dull and the general appearance more silky or fibrous on a typical Franklin bustamite. I bought this one from Kurt Hennig at the Franklin show several years ago-- not only because of its unusually vibrant daylight color, but also because it fluoresces in long-wave UV. A long-wave UV photo of the above specimen may appear on this website sometime in the next decade or two, if I can remember where I put this rock. In the meantime I do have another fluorescent bustamite I've photographed and will upload shortly. Specimen is about 2 inches across. Note the small amount of yellow andradite garnet. |
